I've just bought one, 2nd hand, and will leave a review once I've properly tried it out. Anyone who has pitched this tent: there are three different types of pegs but the instruction don't mention which go where. There's four chunky, straight pegs with plastic hooks at the top, then two guages of metal hooked pegs. Maybe they've been added by the previous owner. Any tips appreciated!:o)

We have owned one of these tents for 5 years ish.

Bought on a whim to replace a large chalet style tent to do us for a weekend away with a child under one.

5 years later this tent has done a fare few weekend and week long trips.

Im not the biggest fans on fibre glass poles having had one snap on us in the past (not this tent a Rage Bodo). But these poles are very rigid, strong and withstood some of best of british weather that could be thrown at us. We are or where a family of three and we found it a squeeze, we are now a family of 5 (3 humans 2 mutleys) and find the interior space far to small (the dogs sleep in crates, both of which are large). Although head height for a tall person is comfortable, no stooping or bending needed.

Until our last trip we had no issue with water ingress, the storm flap did its job as did the groundsheet. However, it leaked badly on the last trip and we awoke to not only a drenched bedroom, but to two very soggy miserable looking dogs. This is where sewn in bedroom pods also failed us we were unable to drop them down to dry the tops off - so had to wait for the sun to appear and work its magic (which it did-eventually).

The Doors to the tent are large as are the windows, the main door does not have a bug mesh so bugs can and do get in, all the time! The pods mesh doors are ok but if you have to many items in the central pockets it can make the pods hard to close. The vents are also inadequate in very warm weather, we had ours open but not enough fresh air was getting in to cool the tent down and it was to warm until about 7/8 in evening to even contemplate sitting in.

Pitching time is down to 30 minutes including pegging out. Does go back into its bag, with persuasion. We are going to repoof it, but will be upgrading to a larger tent as it is simply to small now for our needs. Will be sad to see it go.

I bought this tent second hand after doing some research and the Rock 5 seemed to be ideal as I wanted a tent I could stand up in and have plenty inside space if the weather wasn't great.

I was slightly worried about some of the reviews on here saying that the tent let water in but I didn't find that to be the case. After a fine few days away we had a persistent downpour on the last night but the tent stayed dry and warm.

I would have given 10 out of 10 but I do agree with some of the other reviews that the doors could do with some velcro at the bottom to prevent draughts, otherwise it's a great tent.

One more point that may be useful to others is I managed to put this tent up single handed. I started from the front, put the first pole in place, pegged it upright loosely for support then worked towards the back. There are videos on YouTube showing this method and it worked well for me.

A great size tent for me and my husband. Plenty of room in the sleeping area which we use as one room. And plenty of room in the front area for chairs and table when its raining. We have had very heavy rain while using it and it has never leaked. Very easy to put up and packs away easy too. I wouldn't use it for more than 2 people. When we went camping with our children we had a much bigger tent. It might be ok for 2 adults and 2 small children for a short break but on a longer break especially if you had bad weather it wouldn't be fun.

Love it! With two of us, and two dogs, we wanted a tent which would be comfortable for all of us, even in bad weather and this one certainly is large enough. The all in one pitch makes putting the tent up quite easy, and we did manage it in about 15minutes at one campsite with ideal conditions (no wind, rain etc), but usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes. Taking it down is just as easy, and it packs nicely away in one bag. We use the small sleeping area as storage for equipment and clothes, and sleep in the large one. The dogs' bed fits nicely in the corner of the 'living area', with room for table and chairs in bad weather. The sleeping area is slightly larger than our double air bed, unlike many tents we have used in the past, which means we don't have to clamber over the bed to get in it. We have, on two occasions, had water coming in from the front, but both occasions were in extremely windy and very, very wet conditions, and in less extreme weather, the tent has remained quite dry. Having just come back from two weeks away in our Rock 5, I am very much looking forward to our next excursion.

I bought my tent as a lot off ebay. After my ex husband took the Kalahari 10.

It is a great tent but I think I could do with the canopy to go with it as there are 5 of us (2 adults,1 teenager and 2 smaller children). I can see it being a bit cramped if it is bad weather and we have to sit inside for a long while.

It was easy to but up and I like the fact that the sleeping compartments are already attached, I would advise that you make sure they are zipped up before you put it away as we struggled to shut them both after the tent was erected.

It was quite windy in the night but it didn't really move a lot.

The gap at the doors made it a bit drafty if you don't fasten it all properly.

Overall a good tent for the price. But I think if you don't have the canopy it is best suited for 4 people or less to give you that extra bit of room.

I recently brought one these as a good way for me and my little boy to get away. We have only used it the once and had a really good time.

The tent was very easy to put up alone and was easy to put away.

The only problems I have is that the doors do not have a fly sheet attached and they also don't fasten at the bottom which allows creepy crawlies to come into the main living area. We had a few earwigs come to visit.

Unfortunately there was a fault in the tent and when I took it back to exchange it they didn't have another.

I am disappointed because this is basically a very good tent.

Would definitely buy another and would also recommend to anyone else.

My friend has brought the Rock 4 after seeing how good mine was.

First new tent for 20 years as we wanted one we could stand up in. The Rock 5 seemed to have everything we wanted. It is easy to put up.

We took it to Devon and it stood up really well to howling winds, driving rain and night raids by wildlife to steal our supplies.

We are absolutely delighted with our Rock 5, totally waterproof,no snapped poles or broken ropes to wake up to in the morning.

Only minor suggestions to improve the side entrance by adding velcro to keep the bottom flap down in high wind and rain.

We will be buying the carpet next and for going abroad the canopy too.

Great tent!

Great tent & would buy he same one again, brought two years ago and still in good condition. Never had a problem with rain (keep fingers crossed). Bedroom states for 5 but like all tents that never right, I would say 3/4 at a push. Only myself & hubby use our so lots of space even with our bed being kings sized, still have loads of space to get around and the dog at the side of us. Only thing I would like to see is a way to seal the door flaps at the bottom, but a bit of velco would sort this (Hi gear hope you read this) Porch also purchased and this is great for the rainy days to cook in or even hide from the sun.Well recommended tent

Bought this tent from go outdoors on a spare of the moment decision for a cheaper way to spend weekends away .

There is only me and the wife so all the extra space is fantastic.

The first time we pitched it up we was amazed just how easy it was to put up (about 20 to 30 mins ) and had a great weekend .

No leaks no bugs and no problems to report about this tent so far and have used it on several occasions already this year .

Now we have gone camping crazy , we have now also bought the footprint ,carpets and awning for this tent as well as a windbreak to match .

All in all a great tent and would not hesitate to buy another one if anything happened to this one .

Can't wait for out next outing in this tent .

Manufacturer's Description

A spacious family sized 5 person tent with a large bedroom and porch, ideal for small families and getaways.

5 Berth Family Tent
All in one pitching style
Taped seams - no leaks

The Hi Gear Rock 5 is a flexible family tent for families or couples looking for extra room. The tent and bedroom are separate parts that are permanently attached with a mesh panel, so you get the benefits of reduced condensation without the hassle of fitting the inners every time you pitch the tent. Couple this with the sewn in groundsheet and taped flysheet and you have a draft and insect free space that will keep you dry, even in prolonged rain.

The bedroom can be divided into 2 and a 3 person rooms with a central curtain, and the tall windows in the front allow lots of light into the living area. The doors to the front and side can be converted to awnings with awning poles (sold separately).

A great tent for first time campers or those who want a simple and roomy tent for weekends away.
